Dear producers, Women- centric films can make money

Queen

Cate Blanchett, in her acceptance speech for winning the Best Actress Oscar for Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine said, “I want to thank our producers for so bravely and intelligently distributing the film and to the audiences, who went to see it, and perhaps those of us in the industry, who are still foolishly clinging to the idea that female films with women at the centre are niche experiences. They are not. Audiences want to see them and, in fact, they earn money. The world is round, people.”

Well, this is so true in Bollywood too, where we have seen women-oriented films in the past making money and this Women’s Day weekend we have two films Queen and Gulaab Gang releasing, which are women-oriented and will hopefully make money. Since top actresses are paid a fraction of what top actors are currently paid, the chances of such films making more money become higher.

Upcoming women-oriented films:

Gulaab Gang Two top actresses, Madhuri Dixit-Nene and Juhi Chawla, star in this film. Madhuri leads a gang of women vigilantes incapable of fighting for their rights. Juhi plays villain for the first time.

Queen The central character played by Kangana Ranaut is about a girl who, from believing that she only aspires to be married, comes into her own.

Bobby Jasoos Vidya Balan plays a jasoos.
