Tuning in…First Palestinian Women’s Radio Station is Launched

There ain’t nothing like the freedom of the airwaves to not only report the news and play music, but also to unite people under a similar flag. That’s what a group of female entrepreneurs in Palestine are learning after recently launching their own female-geared Arabic radio station right in the West Bank city of Ramallah.

Fittingly named Nisaa 96 FM, which means “women” in English, the radio station employs both men and women, even though it is female oriented. At the launch party, the radio station’s founder had this to say, “The broadcasts will focus on women’s issues, but they will also target men in order to influence them for the benefit of women.”

The radio show’s schedule will include call-in shows, expert panelists and a full line up of today’s hottest music. However, getting the word out about the new radio station has been a bit slow. The radio station’s website links to a Facebook fan page that is almost at 300 fans. It also links to a Twitter page that is full of radio station updates. Hopefully, as the word gets out about Nisaa 96 FM, it will grow a devout following of listeners.
