Mount Aconcagua: A Challenge of Change for Abdulla

3_Gallery_0Before Abdulla Al Muhairbi conquered South America’s tallest mountain he thought the challenge would be mainly physical. The 25-year-old civil engineer admits he was wrong.

“I now realize it’s a mental thing,” he said. “You’re outside your comfort zone and you have to be ready for absolutely everything; from freezing cold temperatures and lack of oxygen, to not showering for ten days.

“It really made me grateful for everything we have here in the UAE.”

Abdulla scaled Argentina’s Mount Aconcagua at the end of last year with his friend Yousuf Al Gurg to raise awareness of the benefits of healthy living and an active lifestyle.

The daring Emiratis took on their challenge as part of a fitness campaign called Think Fit, run by UAE-based Think Up GCC.

“A lot of people here are diabetic or overweight because they just sit at their computer or watch TV all day,” said Abdulla. “I wanted to change something in the UAE. I want people to adopt a healthy lifestyle and start moving.”
