Think you’ve got what it takes as an artist? Submit your work!
Elan is a magazine for the young, hip Muslim American. Elan highlights the culture and lifestyle of Muslim Americans, realizing unity within our diversity. Our target audience is Muslim American men and women, from age ranges of 18-32.
Elan also prides itself on its excellent and diverse artistic content, ranging from photography, to illustrations, to photo montages. We aim for sharp, creative, and professional looking photography as well as edgy, and hip illustrations. Elan features a broad range of topics of interest to the Muslims American world, from featured artists, celebrities, business, destinations, fashion, food, sports, heritage, and culture. We are looking to expand and build our network of artists throughout the United States as well as the world, so please, do feel free to submit your portfolio for consideration!
To submit your portfolio for consideration, please email us a letter of introduction, a website of your work, your resume of related work and print experience, your preferred medium of working, and your interests/specialties in your artwork/photography. Please no follow up calls. We will call you if we are interested or when we find an appropriate assignment to fit with your work.
To submit a pitch for a future photo essay, interview, fashion story, etc., please email the Creative Director at , along with the above materials required for portfolio consideration, a proposal of your story idea, and how you plan to execute it in detail. Please keep in mind our targeted demographic in pitching your ideas.
To submit artwork for a story, which has already been assigned to you by Elan, please discuss specifics with the Creative Director. We accept high resolution TIFF or RAW images, either originals or scanned from originals. Please no analog film, or original artwork. All artwork must be submitted electronically via email or ftp access.

Want to write for us? Here’s how.
1. Be witty, smart, casual, edgy, satirical, yet still in a strong, clear and concise writing style. We look for unique pitches or unique angles on mainstream topics/stories. Often, we’ll get numerous pitches about a single topic and we’ll go with the freshest, most intriguing approach. We’re looking for ideas that fall under the radar, as well as mainstream issues and how they all reflect and relate to Muslim youth.
3. Anyone interested in contributing to Elan needs to submit 2-3 writing samples (If you don’t have clips, write us a 200-word “Undercurrents” piece.)
4 Submit a resume and/or CV.
5. Send us a short, succinct pitch, no longer than two or three paragraphs. Please include all relevant info. including the specific department and section you are pitching for (please see departments listed below), who you plan on interviewing for the piece (if relevant,) whether or not you have contact info. for the interviews and of course your specific, exclusive angle on the piece.
