With New York Fashion Week in full swing and more shows in Dubai and Niger right around the corner, we thought we’d commemorate the occasion - well - in true elan fashion. Here are our picks of the Top 10 Biggest Names in Fashion, covering the names you need to know to hit a high note with your attire this Fall.

Be sure to leave comments to let us know what you think of our list, especially if we missed any of your favorites!

10. Nedret Tacirogullu:
The acclaimed Turkish designer made her US debut this year at Couture Fashion Week in New York, with her collection inspired by the city of Istanbul. Tacirogullu is the only Turkish designer to stage a show in Milan for three years running, and also designed a private collection for former first lady Nancy Regan.

9. Tom Ford (for his new collection of jilbabs):
The former Gucci powerhouse’s dishdashas (or thobes) have been on display at an “appointment-only” section of exclusive Arab boutique Villa Moda since August.

8. Joseph Abboud:
The menswear designer of Lebanese descent may actually be the most quintessentially “American” on our list. With the recent launch of his JOE line for JC Penny, Abboud is proof that a classic style is always a winner.

7. HSY:
The Pakistani bridalwear designer has branched out significantly in recent years, from menswear to home furnishings, and his name is now practically synonymous with upscale South Asian fashion.

6. Reem Acra:
Wedding dress designer Reem Acra of Lebanon is a favorite amongst Muslim women. This year, the designer saluted Woodstock at New York Fashion Week, with a whimsical collection inspired by 1960s hippie culture.

5. Elie Saab:
From princesses to Hollywood starlets, Lebanese designer Elie Saab has been a force to be reckoned with in Middle Eastern fashion. Recently, the intricate designer even rocked the interiors world by designing a boutique hotel for the Tiger Woods golf community in Dubai.

4. Folake Folarin-Coker (of Tiffany Amber Nigeria):
The self-taught Nigerian fashionista behind the celebrated Tiffany Amber Nigeria line is making a splash at Fashion Week in New York this year. Her collection recent showing at Arise Africa Fashion Week also received rave reviews at Arise Africa Fashion Week and is the first African designer to show at New York Fashion Week twice.

3. Naeem Khan:
Red carpet staple Naeem Khan is one of the most coveted names in the fashion industry, dressing celebs like Beyonce, Padma Lakshmi and Carrie Underwood. The Indian-born designer is known for his rich embellishments and glamorous, classic style.

2. Norma Kamali:
Described by the New York Times as “urban survivalist chic,” Norma Kamali’s designs are not only timeless, but often ahead of her time. Kamali will be unveiling her latest collection this week at the Soho Apple Store in New York, and has also launched an iPhone application to make purchasing her popular NK at Wal-Mart line easier online.

1. Yves Saint Laurent
Born in Algeria, the fashion icon was famously inspired by Moroccan colors and patterns. At NY Fashion Week this year, the YSL collection is aiming for a modern spin on black leather and fall grays. Whether in prints or solid, YSL remains at the pinnacle of fashion the world over.

This is interesting, and I enjoyed reading about the designers. However,
(constructively speaking) I think that you should have clarified exactly what you meant by the “top 10 biggest names in fashion”; specifically how the “elan” list is different from other lists out there. After reading through the list, it is obvious that they are connected in some way which relates to your magazine- however, I think you need to spell that out more clearly in the beginning. I mean what makes the “elan” fashion list special? What factors determined why it would be on your list? Let’s say someone who didn’t know about your magazine, were to read this article, what would they think? I see the words Dubai, Niger, and Muslim-sounding names; but I am missing the couple of sentences that would show me the focus of your piece.
