Oh France, you have done it again. After attempts to ban the hijab, the burqa, and the niqab - as visible symbols of the “Islamification” of the precious French (i.e. white) identity - there is a new controversy that finds French Muslims unwillingly pitted against their non-Muslim countrymen.

Here’s the story: Quick, a French fast food company, is testing out an emerging market - halaal meat. In eight of its stores that serve a sizable Muslim population, the company is serving only halaal meats and has removed all pork products from its menu. The company has been conducting this “marketing exercise” since November, and nobody cared until right-wing party leader Marine Le Pen started making a fuss about “halalburgers” being an “Islamic tax” on French consumers, according to an article in the Independent

There is only one scenario where Le Pen’s ridiculous ranting would make sense - if the so-called “halalburger” was infused with a magic “Muslim convert” potion and if it cost non-Muslim patrons more to purchase it. I wonder if Le Pen knows that halaal meat is still in fact meat from an ordinary cow - the only difference being the manner in which the cow was slaughtered. It’s not like the food will suddenly taste “Muslim.”

But of course, this isn’t about the way in which cows are slaughtered. This is a political movement tied to all other previous efforts in France to make French Muslims feel unwelcome and decidedly “un-French.”

Right-wing French politicians are even claiming that the serving of halaal meat at some Quick locations amounts to “discrimination” against non-Muslim customers. But these customers can still choose from non-halaal options such as beer. And talk about discrimination - what about the way French Muslims (and many other French people of color for that matter) are treated by their own government officials! They are pushed into slums, isolated socially, politically and economically, and generally treated as if they are not quite worthy of the title of being “French.”

If a French company can’t even offer its 8 million Muslim customers a hamburger without cries of “Islamification of the West,” then the racist hysteria over Muslims in Europe is even worse than I thought. It’s a hamburger people...get over it.

ONLY in france can such stupidity breed. I have been fortunate enough to have gone to france and have eaten from the said fast food chain (FYI.. the burgers are… in the immortal words of Gizmo from The Gremlins.. “YUM YUM” !!!) and whilst I was there I spoke to a white french man who worked as a financial advisor and who was under the impression that halal meat comes from Muslim chickens as opposed to their christian chickens. My eyebrow was raised higher than “The Rock’s” at that ridiculous opinion.. I had to tell him that the meat is the same but the way its cut is more humane and thats all, so its really just a term.
It should make no difference to the french whatsoever to eat halal meat and burgers, but anything associated with Islam is hard for them to digest. Pun intended!

HAHA, Muslim Chickens vs. Christian Chickens...what is the world coming to?

Culture is the new battleground.  In the US we have Muslims but they are not rioting and burning cars, nor are they getting Sharia law.  In France they are clearly at the front of a culture war - and hamburgers are a trivial example.

It doesn’t make much sense to have a big outcry over hamburgers, this is true.  If everyone can agree from the beginning to have a “multicultural” society, fine.  But this isn’t the Muslim goal at all - they want their culture to be supreme and all others to exist only in subjugation.  So whether it is covering faces in official photographs, wearing religious garb to school or halal meats it is all just one more step along a path.  A path every Muslim is determined to follow.

Racism? I don’t see any “race” here.  What I do see is a battle for the culture of a country and right now the majority is losing to a very vocal minority.

@pcrowley

At what point has any French Muslim ever imposed their practices on anyone else? You’re describing the situation as if they’re forcing people to wear head scarfs and shoving halal meat down people’s throats. They’re just practicing the freedom to believe and practice whatever they want while not harming or hindering anyone else’s beliefs or practices.

You’re just vocalizes conservative fear tactics and islamaphobia.

Especially in the current news story; no one is forcing anyone to eat at that restaurant. If halal meat is somehow offensive to a French person (which is a laughable assumption), he or she can simply not eat there and stop whining about it.
