On Friday, September 25th, 50,000 Muslims will descend upon Capitol Hill for the first-ever ”Islamic Day of Prayer.” The event, which involves the first Jummah prayer to be held on the National Mall, seems to be the next step in Obama’s efforts to reach out to the Muslim community in America.
Highlights from the day will include the adhan being chanted from Capitol Hill, echoing at the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument and surrounding areas, and tours of the Library of Congress and Supreme Court for Muslim youth.
According to the Montclair Times, the day is being organized partly by Kevin Dawud Amin, the Imam of Masjid Ul Wadud in Montclair, New Jersey, as well as Hassen Abdellah of the Dar-Ul-Islam mosque in Elizabeth, New Jersey.
“I think it’s a good effort,” Amin said. “They’re going down there to do something other than a protest. This is a good way to show the type of community we are, because it’s going to be all types of people and show all our demographics.”

This was really pretty cool. I think more people will be able to go next year when there is more event exposure.
