The Middle East’s favorite powerhouse is celebrating its 79th birthday this month. Time to pop champagne! (Okay, maybe not).

Saudi Arabia marked the historic occasion last week mainly with the opening of KAUST, its first-ever co-educational university. Coupled with news like this - clearer health food labels, score! - we’re positive that bigger and better changes are right around the corner for the Kingdom.

Despite the fact that Saudi tends to get a bad rep from most of the mainstream media, there are many achievements that the Saudis can be proud of in its young age. Aside from being the largest economy in the Middle East and the world’s largest oil exporter, Saudi Arabia recently ranked 13th among the most business-friendly countries by the World Bank.

Happy Birthday Saudi ... we raise a shisha pipe in your honor.

For some reason when I read this I thought it was so cute! I guess it’s the way you wrote it...or maybe the fact that some Muslims think birthdays are makrouh and we’re talking about Saudi here. When women are driving, they will have truly made progress.
