Last week, elan reported on the world’s recent discovery of the nation of Yemen (and as a major threat to national security no less). The reverberations of this huge discovery are still being felt this week. Did you know, for instance, that “Iraq is yesterday’s war” and that “Yemen will be tomorrow’s war”? I learned this from Joe Lieberman. He said it on Fox News, so it must be true.

The Colbert Report also did a thrilling expose on just how dangerous little Yemen is. As Stephen Colbert says, “Like many Americans prior to Christmas, I thought Yemen was the plural of ‘yam’.” But now, Americans all over the country are gearing up for a brand new enemy, and the excitement is contagious:

“A new enemy is like a new girlfriend - so many things to discover!” says Colbert. “Will she like it when I nibble her ear? How soon can I bomb her cities?”

Colbert makes the case for bombing Yemen into submission with a brilliant analogy: “Yemen’s foreign minister admits, the country contains 200 Al-Qaeda members. Two hundred Al-Qaeda members in a country of 23 million?! Not bombing Yemen to get rid of Al-Qaeda would be like not bombing Staten Island to get rid of the Wu-Tang Clan.”

Well said, Mr. Colbert. Watch the rest of the segment here

Yemen had it coming? Just like Iraq and Afghanistan had it coming? I don’t think so.
